The International Conference on Biochemical and Biotechnological Approaches for Crop Improvement (IBBACI 2023) was jointly organized by the Society of Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology in collaboration with ICAR-IARI, New Delhi; ICAR-NIPB, New Delhi; and CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow. The conference took place from October 30 to November 1, 2023, at the National Agricultural Science Centre (NASC) Complex in New Delhi.
The event brought together international experts and emerging scientists interested in plant biochemistry and biotechnology for crop improvement. It served as a platform to discuss novel crop improvement strategies aimed at meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2023.
Discussions at the conference focused on groundbreaking advancements in genetic engineering, CRISPR-based innovations, molecular breeding for enhanced crop varieties, biostimulants and biofertilizers for sustainable agriculture, the role of omics technologies in crop improvement, and the development of climate-resilient and stress-tolerant crops. Participants had the opportunity to interact with experts from diverse fields, including metabolic pathway engineering, genome editing, abiotic and biotic stress tolerance, functional genomics, advances in legumes and oilseed research, foodomics, and nutrigenomics.
IBBACI 2023 saw participation from leading universities, research institutions, and industry representatives worldwide. Scientists and academicians exchanged knowledge on breakthrough research, highlighting strategies for the future of sustainable agriculture through biochemical and biotechnological advancements. The conference underscored the importance of collaborative research and policy support to ensure that modern biotechnological tools benefit farmers and contribute to global food security.
