The International Conference on "Reimagining Rainfed Agroecosystems – Challenges and Opportunities" was organized from December 22-24, 2022, at ICAR-Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture (CRIDA), Hyderabad. The conference brought together leading scientists, policymakers, and practitioners to discuss innovative approaches for enhancing the resilience and productivity of rainfed agroecosystems in the face of climate change and resource constraints.
The event featured expert sessions on key topics, including climate-resilient agriculture, soil and water management, crop diversification, and policy interventions for sustainable rainfed farming. Eminent researchers and stakeholders shared insights on improving livelihood security for farmers dependent on rainfed agriculture, emphasizing the role of technology, traditional knowledge, and participatory approaches in transforming these ecosystems.
The conference fostered discussions on strategic pathways to ensure food and nutritional security while addressing environmental sustainability in rainfed regions. It served as a platform for collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and development practitioners, highlighting the need for integrated and adaptive strategies to strengthen rainfed agriculture in India and beyond.
